AT comes right on Devonport
Last year Auckland Transport consulted on the future of public transport in Devonport, bringing to a head a decision about what to do about their one year, million dollar plus subsidised taxi trial (AT Local) they had kept running for two years despite not meeting targets.…
The State of the Nation’s Houses
Auckland has a housing shortage.
Everybody likes houses. Everybody understands that everybody needs to be housed. Nobody wants people to be homeless, or even overcrowded.
People typically choose to live in a neighbourhood because they like that neighbourhood as it is.…
Upgrading New North Rd and Symonds Street
In October 2018, we first learnt that Auckland Transport were planning to upgrade a range of corridors across the region to improve bus priority, safety as well s walking and cycling. Initially called Integrated Corridors Programme but later renamed Connected Communities, we saw more detail about the plans a month later when AT refreshed it’s Regional Public Transport Plan (RPTP).…

On January 23, 2015, Auckland Transport sprung a huge surprise on everyone, including then Mayor Len Brown, by announcing a plan to introduce light-rail on several key isthmus corridors to fill the rapid transit void on the Isthmus. Auckland Transport are consulting on what, if fully delivered, will be an exciting, safe cycle network for Henderson. This follows a consultation in 2018 where they asked where improvements should be made. They say they had 500 submissions on that with 275 new routes identified and that since then they’ve undertaken “further technical work” to narrow down the key routes of the proposed network.…
Auckland’s PT fare changes for 2021
Yesterday Auckland Transport announced the outcome of their annual fare review and the result is a mixed bag. There are some good structural changes coming to fares but at the same time the cost of catching public transport is going up as a result of the largest fare increases we’ve seen.…
We won’t have ‘good PT’ if we don’t enforce bus lanes
As a society we tend to be quite keen to ensure that people follow our rules and laws. We have political parties arguing about how they’re “the party of law and order” and even when laws aren’t broken, we often don’t look too kindly of people who bend them to get ahead.…
